Freelancers: RM30–150 a reel

This is the cheapest human option, and the one to compare against if you already shoot on your phone. Malaysian guides put a 30–60 second TikTok or Reels edit at RM30–150 (Tijarah) or RM40–150 for a short clip cut from footage you own (Gotchaa Lab). A beginner on r/malaysians reported charging RM40 for a one-minute Reels ad. A freelancer on Threads sells 8 videos a month for RM600, which is RM75 a video. One buyer on Threads asked whether RM25 a video was acceptable for 2–3 videos a day, and the post drew 161 comments.

Agencies: a median of RM688 a reel

Agencies and production houses cluster between RM200 and RM1,550 a finished short video. Across 21 published agency prices the median is RM688. The price usually includes a script, a shoot and sometimes motion graphics or ads management, so it buys more than an edit.

Monthly retainers that include reels start at about RM2,000–3,800 a month.

Hourly rates and salaries

Videotto's 2026 guide puts entry-level freelance editors at RM30–80 an hour, mid-level at RM80–150, senior at RM150–300 and agencies at RM300–800 or more. It says Klang Valley rates run 20–30% higher. Payscale records an average of RM20.56 an hour for employees with video editing skills (37 profiles, April 2026). A full-time video editor's salary has a median of RM3,500 a month on JobStreet, with the middle half between RM2,800 and RM4,300.

What Supacuts costs

We make Supacuts, so weigh this section with that in mind. Supacuts edits your own phone footage into a finished 45–60 second reel: pauses and retakes cut, English and Chinese captions, key-word graphics, b-roll, music and sound, a thumbnail, a post caption and a score of how closely it matches the editing style you chose.

It does not shoot for you, and it is launching in Malaysia now, with a waitlist. If you need a script and a film crew, an agency is the right comparison. If you already film yourself, compare it with a freelancer.

Questions

How much should I pay someone to edit a TikTok or Instagram reel in Malaysia?

For footage you shot yourself, most published freelance prices sit at RM40–95 a reel, and an editing service charges RM60–99. Above RM150, you are usually paying for scripting, shooting or motion graphics.

Is it cheaper to hire a video editor full-time?

A salaried editor costs a median RM3,500 a month before employer contributions. That is cheaper than an agency once you need more than about five reels a month, but more than a freelancer or an AI editor at most small-business volumes.

Why are agency prices so different?

Because they sell different things. A RM250 UGC video, a RM500 production-plan video and a RM1,500 full-service video differ in who shoots, how many people appear, and how much strategy and ads work comes with it.

Do these prices include SST?

Often not. Several agencies on this page state that their prices exclude SST, so check before comparing.

How we collected these prices

On 13 October 2026 we gathered 37 published prices for editing a short-form video in Malaysia: freelancer posts and rate cards, agency price pages, and cost guides. We turned every package into a price per reel (package price ÷ number of videos, using the midpoint of any range) and grouped them by who edits. Prices we only saw in search snippets, or on pages that blocked us, are left out of the figures on this page. Cost guides written by agencies that sell the service are included but treated as estimates.
